Hearty Thanksgiving!

We’ve completed a successful first week and like most of us, our guys are stuffed at the end of the day, but not with turkey!

Yea! The New Puppies Arrive!

You may remember that we introduced Allie, aka Seneca Up Your Alley, fourth generation OFA Excellent, a few months ago?

Seneca Airedales

Seneca Airedales introduces Allie!

Here’s a pic of Allie to jog your memory … and here’s a recap: Her sire is CH Seneca Minnesota Razzle CDX RE AXP AJP.  Razzle is OFA Good and both his parents are OFA Excellent. Her dam is CH Seneca You Will Fancy This. Fancy is OFA Excellent and her parents are OFA Fair and OFA Excellent. If this all sounds a bit familiar, Allie’s older brother is last year’s new Champion; you can visit him here and see more photos of Allie’s family: https://smartairedales.wordpress.com/2015/03/31/new-champion-seneca-the-new-jack/

Now we have the happy news that Allie has her first litter, eight fine puppies of 5 female and 3 male, delivered last night in the final hours of NovOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA 16th.  If you look carefully, you can see all eight colors of ribbons which serve as their name until they get better ones. Here’s the stats:

5:46 pm Blue male           9.25 oz

6:21 pm Pink female      13.00 oz

7:05 pm Gold female      10.75 oz

7:40 pm Yellow female 12.00 oz

8:05 pm Green male      11.25 oz

8:45 pm Scarlet female 10.75 oz

10:25 pm Purple male     10.00 oz

10:40 pm Orange female  9.75 oz

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI sleep in a room right next to the puppies and check them often during the night and throughout the day. All are strong and nursing vigorously; Allie is a wonderful mama dog. Here a final shot of the proud parent.

On my next postings, I will cover our new and improved whelping furnishings, the sire of these fine puppies and his family ties, as well as other notes and observations as these little ones grow bigger. Feel free to visit my earlier posts to see previews of development.

In closing, it’s too bad that these little ones just couldn’t be born fast enough for some folks. We had to return some deposits lately due to the time required to produce a puppy–you just can’t rush something like this. So, we do have a few more reservation openings available if you are looking for a best friend ever!

Having A BIG Week….

Yes siree BOB! Today the puppies did all of the following:

  • Got their first ever bath!
  • Got to play outside a bit after getting dry
  • Got group, bath, and individual shots taken!

Let’s just skip straight to the photos!

Bath time in the tub; followed by the girls getting pampered in spa towels (ready for our pedicure!) and below them, the boys looking like “The Right Stuff!

Then, fully dry, the APU (Airedale Puppies United) hit the field for a little practice time! Notice how they are logging some air time while others sit it out on the wooly bed…boot climbing and toy carrying are popular too!

We can still take reservations!

We Are Working Hard….

Yup, I am *so* very late to get my next posting up. But if you’ll accept some really good excuses, here’s what I’ve got so far:

  • Pedigree is researched and getting its last review for 5 generations
  • Puppies have gotten the first vaccination in their puppy series
    • Remember that this series ends with the first one-year rabies vaccination at 16 weeks and the last of the distemper combination boosters.
  • Yesterday was sunny and everybody got to go outside for the first time–YAY! They found it is a big wide world out there.
  • Together we’ve done the first conformation evaluation and we have everybody embodying the best characteristics of the breed, attractive looks, and some of each sex that can go on to be champions!

While I get some photos together, please enjoy the latest shots of daddy, Bear. Did we mention that we’re so proud of him for his win at the National Specialty in October?

Three Weeks Old…Score! (Will Play For Food, That Is….!)

Our APU team, that’s Airedale Puppies United to everyone who has been watching their new season, have started in on REAL food! They highly approve of this new development, along with eyes and ears now in full use, as well as vocal cords! Yes, we hear yips, growls, and every little noise they can make as they learn to speak “dog.”

Seneca Airedales

Seneca Airedales born Oct 26, 2015

The cuteness rating has gone through the roof this week! What could be cuter than two puppies that might weigh 2 pounds each tussling with each other? Play has been added the the previous favorites of eating and sleeping. Of course, they have a tendency to decide that Mom should visit them at about 2 am each night and sing a chorus of discontent until she does. You know, these guys are right next to the bedroom, so we know all their moves!

Week Three is also important as they have had the first mild preventative worming medication too. We like to set them up for a great first season!

Why is it so important to start food now at 21 days old? Well, consider this: Reddi weighs about 45 pounds and only needs about 3 cups of food per day to take care of her own needs. The puppies weigh about 2.5 pounds each and are rapidly gaining. So times the number of puppies gives us more than 20 pounds of puppies, almost half of Reddi’s body weight to support just through milk?!? That’s a lot of milk!  Reddi has been eating about 8 cups of densely nutritious foods every day plus drinking more than a gallon of water. The puppies demand just a little more each and every day then they did the day before. So–yes, we’re helping. Reddi sees them a lot and is very very happy to clean up any puppy food they miss! Then she cleans every puppy too!

So Much Easier to Lick the Food Off Somebody’s Ear….

Reservations are still being accepted by Nancy 330-666-2004

Two Weeks Old….all members of the APU (Airedale Puppies United)

Well, doesn’t eight make a team in soccer? I could be wrong about the sports but they do EVERYTHING together.

Born October 26, 2015

Born October 26, 2015

Reddi, the mother is devoted and attentive to them and produces sufficient milk to keep them all happy so far. Very soon they will be so big that Reddi will need some help beyond the high quality Best Breed diet that I have been just about shoveling in to her to keep up with the physical demands that all this mothering requires.

Reservations suggested! Call Nancy at 330-666-2004

In just a few more days, their eyes will open on this big new world.

I think puppies are born optimists and it’s up to us not to disappoint them!

Wonder where the phrase “Pile of Puppies” came from?

Are You Busy in May?

We have puppies for May….are you too busy then for a puppy?

The daddy is New CH Seneca The New Jack, as featured in our post of March 31, 2015. Here are some photos just after birth of 4 boys and 3 girls. We can only promise boy reservations at the moment although plans might change in early May for the girls.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Here we have Blue, Gold, Red, and White are the boys. Coral, Yellow, and Pink are the girls. Here they are at almost 2 weeks old and almost twice as big!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA This little guys will have open eyes in just a few days. We’re thinking that mid May will be their big debut!

Once Upon A Time….

…there was this amazing dog.
.
He was born behind the Berlin Wall in communist East Germany. Incredible dog–I saw him working at the SchH III level at a dog sports club by Chemnitz. My hosts pointed him out to me across the training field and I saw a dog that charged the retrieve, leaped 36″ jumps, and ran full out in every task he was asked to do. They asked me how old I thought he was and I guessed 4–old enough to exhibit the advanced level of training and young enough to engage wholeheartedly. They told me he was 10 years and that he had been SCHIII an amazing 64 times!
.
Later, I met his handler and this dog–Luckyboy v. Abendstern SCH III, FH I. I expected a guarded, hard core set of eyes that would reflect all that protection work. Instead, he looked up at me with the eyes of a puppy–open, friendly, and sweet natured. I had dreams about him for the next two nights. Then I asked my host to contact his owner deep into what had been East Germany to see if I could buy him. I really didn’t go out there to buy an OLD DOG–but I did.
.
LuckyBoy_sitHere in the US, he certified OFA Excellent when he was almost 11. He’s passed on now but lived to be 13. We collected semen for storage and have used it very judiciously. He’s been influential in the breed and is the best outcross I’ve ever seen. He sired SchH titled dogs in Europe and then Champions and AKC obedience dogs all the way up to UD (Utility Dog). His best known son is Ch. Seneca’s Ochoco Pete, UD who attended the Eukanuba Invitationals, ranked in the top 5 obedience dogs for several years and also excelled in bird work at field trials.
I just created a pdf of my records from Germany that I received with Lucky Boy, including his score books from the trials. They are a slice of the history of the working Airedale in Germany.

⇒We are expecting the first litter of LuckyBoy puppies in over 11 years!
